Does anyone know exactly why LaVyrle Spencer retired or if she has any plans of writing again?

Oh... I,ve been wondering about that, I've recently discovered her books (Small Town Girl was mention on a Trisha Yearwood board) and I was wondering how come I couldn't find a new release... Think she will ever write again?

LaVyrle Spencer has been a mystery to me for all the years I've been reading her stuff. She doesn't have a website and everytime I come across a reading group, it's no longer active. For such a great author, I'm surprised her following is so small. I've read everything she's ever written and re-read them every year or so because I've yet to find an author that can write like her.

I assume that her following is that small becasue she's retired or something. I have yet to read (And own!) everything she's written, but all the book store around here seems to carry the smae ones....

Angel - you have got to try the library for the following books. The bookstores are pretty good about carrying her stuff but I found the library to have everything. If you don't do the library, try Amazon.com and buy new or used copies. I found that her old stuff is the best. You have to find: Hummingbird - Years - The Gamble - and Seperate Beds. I can't believe she's retired for good. I think she might one day write again. She's had 3 television movies and one motion picture made of her books - so somebody out there is reading them besides us!

Just a suggestion, but try the used book stores... I live in Chattanooga, TN, we have several stores where you can trade out your used books...always lots of Lavyrle Spencer...& yes she is retired...maybe a couple of years ago. She does have a web site as well. I found it buy going in to www.google.com You enter Lavyrle Spencer & everything on the internet on her comes up. |

I am CRAZY NUTS about this lady's work...I've read ALL of her books..most of them about five times...I too..can't understand why I have never met anyone in real life who has even heard of her or ever read any of her books.... I can't find anyone else who's writing I admire more and I broke down crying right in the middle of Hastings Books when I read she was retiring...

Sorry it took me so long to find back this page! Except the gamble I have all those books, read them a couple of time actually! My favs are small town girl, the fullfilment (Sp?) and... Well, years and Hummingbird! OH! And Then came Heaven. I love that one! And I've tried used book stores.. well one that's not too far, but See, I live in Montreal so I'd have to go to the other hend of the island to get a great variety of used english books...

Thank Goodness! More Lavyrle Spencer Fans. I have read everything more than once and cannot find another author of her caliber. I would love to hear more from you guys. I started with Separate Beds years ago! I would be hardpressed to chose just one favorite but it would have to be Spring Fancy!

So good to find other fans of LS.I was so sad when I found out she was retirering.I wish there was some way we could find out more about her,I can't find any others like her I just keep re reading her books!!!

but it is my dearest hope that she'll get restless and want to write again. I don't remember where I read that her daughter who had gotten married around the time she wrote Bittersweet got married and now she's got a little boy. On the jacket for then came heaven -- her farewell book -- she said she was having too much fun as a retiree and didn't look like she would have the time to write any more

I too, am one of her biggest fans and have read, and own everything she has written. I'm hopin that she comes back for at least one more book. Hopefully, writing for her isn't something that she can't get out of her system and she will come back with a new bold story! Wouldn't that be great? Everything on the internet I have ever found on her, has been fan websites, but dedicated to her. Nothing By her. Like the Nora Roberts site, or Sandra Brown site. They are just dedications of a sort. Anywho, I just love her books, and it's nice to see the following of fans that she has! Keep reading, Keep posting!!

I am so glad that I discovered this website. Like all the other fans, I have often wondered why she quit writing. I have every book she has written and, like you all, have reread them many times. Some books I have two copies of. Separate Beds and the Fulfillment. I have researched aliases and have found nothing. I hope she will come out of retirement and write at least one a year. She is sorely missed by her readers. I wish her all the best with her grandchild though. I would enjoy hearing from other fans.

I am a close friend of LaVyrle's and can tell you she is very happy with retired life. LaVyrle and her husband Dan have two homes in Minnesota and one in Maui. She has two grandsons whom she worships. Life is good for her. She guarantees everyone she will never write again.

that she will not write again. Her books just tear my heart out. I can't find anybody else to compare. Too bad. |
