I was wondering if anyone has gone back to re-read a Spencer book and has had a different attitude towards the story or the ending. I found that when I re-read "Bittersweet" recently, I was a little annoyed with the hero for being a cheat.....even though his wife was not the best wife in town. I almost felt like maybe my age has changed my mind on this since the first time I read it I was in my early 20's and single and now am 40 and married with 2 kids. Anyone experience this sort of thing when re-reading LS books after many years?

OMG! You two have killed me! Bittersweet is my all time favorite book! I have read it 17 times to date and I don't find Eric annoying in anyway! Nancy was a "not so nice person" Insert the B word there. I dont think my attitudes have changed reading a Spencer book, I always remember my first time reading the story and how much I liked it, and I have re-read her stories a lot.

OMG, Booknook! I'm sorry!!!!!!!!! I loved it,too...as I do everything she ever wrote. I just felt so guilty for feeling a little differently about the hero when I read it again many years later. ***********SPOILER - FOR ANYONE WHO HASN'T READ IT YET*********I don't know...something about Eric bugged me, especially when Nancy got pregnant and he went to her instead. I guess the fact that she was such a B#### made it easier on me. I always felt that was the way LS got around the whole adultery thing in this story. It kind of justified it because of who Nancy was and what she did in her marriage, too.
One LS book that never fails to please is HUMMINGBIRD. My all time favorite. |

Oof! Now see...Hummingbird was one of my least faves from her. Something about the story just didn't grab me, didn't pull me in like the others have. Two other really great stories from her were the Endearment and Fulfillment. OMG! Great stories both of them!!!

I can't believe how off we are!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! LOL!!!
The Fulfillment is at the bottom of my LS book list. It was one of only 2 of her books that I could not finish and did not enjoy...(the other being "Then Came Heaven"). Endearment was innnnncredible. Loved it. I'm currently re-reading "Years" because I needed something to just slow me down and remind me to enjoy the simpler things in life...like family, the outdoors, friends, memories, your youth. That is one book that just satisfies me everytime. |

I'm with ya on the Then Came Heaven...just didn't seem Spencer-ish to me. The other one was Home Song I think...about the lady that comes home..and she was a country singer, got involved with the guy next door to her Grandmas or something...just didn't grab me.

Actually, the country singer story was Small Town Girl. I kind of liked it just for the chemistry that LS is so good at creating. A friend of mine pointed out a couple of mistakes in the book and it kind of ruined the story for me. I hate poor editing.
Home Song was about the principal of a high school meeting his son for the first time when the boy and his mother move into town. It was made into a t.v. movie. Not too impressive a story, but great LS writing nonetheless. |

Oh, no! Hummingbird is one of my favorites. I really love the two main characters.
I didn't care for November of the Heart. That's the only one I've found that took me a long time to finally finish. ~Melody~Orange Princess
